Lumen began as a Live Demonstration Vascular Interventions Symposium in 2001 in Miami and in Miami Beach and was a hugely successful enterprise that provided training in numerous new angioplasty devices and angioplasty techniques. The symposium notably featured international participation and live cases performed at top angioplasty sites in the world. However, since 2007, Lumen has developed into an exclusive, subject-centric STEMI meeting that is now one of the world’s largest AMI meetings.
Lumen offers a one-stop educational rendezvous in STEMI Interventions for interventional cardiologists, fellows in training, nurses, technicians, ED and EMS personnel and hospital administrators. Lumen incorporates a highly innovative agenda to dissect the STEMI process and procedure by world experts in STEMI interventions. The two and a half day format features didactics, debates, global STEMI sessions and unique interactive workshops in STEMI EKG certification, STEMI cineangiographic review, techniques to optimize D2B times, thrombectomy techniques, use of Intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation and left ventricular assist devices, D2B management, Lumen CEO Summit, management of cardiogenic shock, simulation techniques, pre-hospital alert, critical nursing issues, ED management, EMS and pre-hospital strategies, transfer protocols, setting up STEMI programs, cooling and hypothermia, imaging modalities, and cell therapy for STEMI Interventions.
Aside from the main meeting, Lumen Global Chapters and Lumen Workshops are hosted regularly around the world. Local chapters have expanded the global education and training goals of Lumen while taking on unique focus of their own – Lumen/Combat AMI in Cairo, Egypt incorporates universal thrombolysis and pharmacoinvasive management for the burgeoning Egyptian population with management strategies for both STEMI and ACS; Lumen Kovai in India balances pharmacoinvasive management and D2B interventions; Lumen’s AICT, Singapore and CIT Beijing, China chapters focus on a case-based STEMI education; Lumen in Sri Lanka incorporates thrombolysis as the primary AMI management with provisional Primary PCI.
Lumen Global, Dubai, 2012 was tremendously successful as the world-wide expansion of Lumen directed at the large global AMI community, in particular, management of AMI in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. There, Lumen continued its tradition of having a world-class faculty and innovative programming in a meeting dedicated to exploration and dissemination of global, collaborative, scientific and pragmatic strategies to combat AMI. A highlight of the meeting was the China Summit, attended by 65 Chinese interventional cardiologists who shared their unique perspectives.
