Dr. Udayachalerm is currently the Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology and Cardiology unit, Department of Medicine, and Faculty of Medicine, at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Chulalongkorn University Bangkok, Thailand.

He was a fellow in Cardiology from King Chulalongkorn Memorials Hospital and Fellow in Interventional Cardiology University Hospital Leiden, the Netherlands.

Dr. Udayachalerm is a Senior Board Member of the Cardiology Intervention Society of Thailand (CIAT) and member of The Heart Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the King and is the key man to set up the Intervention educational standardize in Thailand.

Dr. Udayachalerm has been an invited as an international faculty at many regional and international conferences and he has published a lot of papers in peer reviewed journals, invited articles and reviews and has delivered most important local and international interventional Cardiology conferences especially on the topics of CTO, Interventional Complications, LM & Bifurcation, Advance Devices in interventional fields.

Dr. Tan Huay Cheem graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and obtained his Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine and Membership of Royal College of Physician (United Kingdom) in 1992, Fellowship of American College of Cardiology in 2001, Fellowship of Society of Coronary Angiography and Intervention in 2002 and Fellowship of Royal College of Physician in 2004.

He did his Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Centre, North Carolina, USA in 1995, followed by training in vascular ultrasonography at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia, and carotid stenting at Taiwan National University Hospital.

He is presently the Director, National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS); Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the National University Hospital, Singapore, and Associate Professor of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

He was the past President of Singapore Cardiac Society and presently a Board member of the Singapore Heart Foundation.

He is regularly invited as a lecturer and faculty in many international cardiology meetings, and is a Visiting Professor to several hospitals in China. He is also an active clinical researcher.

EVGENY V. SCHLYAKHTO | MD

Evgeny V. Shlyakhto, a physician and cardiologists, is one of the leading Russian scientists in the field of clinical medicine. He contributed notably into the research of cardiovascular diseases as well as theoretical and practical organizational issues of specialized and high-tech medical care delivery. Professor since 1994, an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation since 2004, and an Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Science since 2011, Evgeny Shlyakhto is an experienced manager of large educational and medical institutions.

In 2001, he was appointed as Director of Almazov Federal Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre in St-Petersburg, one of the leading Russian medical institutions in fundamental and applied research in the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, hematology, rheumatology, endocrinology, pediatrics, molecular biology and genetics, information and nanotechnologies. The Almazov Centre provides specialized and high-tech medical care as well as training for research and medical personnel within a modern system of continuous medical education. It is integrated into the system of Russian and international consortia and innovation projects. In 2008, the Center was the first Russian institution to acquire the status of ESH Hypertension Excellence Centre. In 2010, Professor Shlyakhto became a member of the WHO Expert Working Group.

Today’s scientific interests of Professor Shlyakhto are in the fields of translational medicine, nanotechnology and nanomaterials, as well as disruptive technology in medicine aimed at providing high-tech care to patients with blood, cardiovascular and endocrine diseases. The results of many years of his research work are summarized in more than 450 publications, 16 inventions, and 2 discoveries as well as in a number of monographs and textbooks. In October 2011, Professor Shlyakhto was elected as President of the Russian Society of Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the International Society of Hypertension and the American Heart Association.

Tan Sri Dr Robaayahhas vast experience in clinical medicine. She started practice of general medicine in 1977, sub-specialized as a cardiologist in 1982, and became Senior Consultant Cardiologist in 1984 until present. Tan Sri Dr Robaayah had been involved in administration and management when she took over the position of Head of Cardiology Department, Hospital Kuala Lumpur in 1984. She continued as Head of Cardiology Department when the Department was incorporated in Institut Jantung Negara IJN (National Heart Institute of Malaysia) in 1992 until September 2005 when she became the Medical Director. She was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IJN on 15th October 2009.

Though her main interest is the practice of clinical medicine and patient care, her other interests included clinical teaching and training as well as clinical research. Her main topic of interest in talks and lectures is the application of scientific evidence-based medicine into clinical practice. In clinical research, she has participated as the regional principal investigator, national principal investigator or central principal investigator for many multicentre international randomised controlled trials and registries. Many of these trials were published in high-impact medical journals.

Tan Sri Dr Robaayah has been actively involved in the scientific meetings in local, national, regional and international scientific meetings as organizing chair, scientific committee, faculty, session chair, speaker, moderator or discussant. She had been involved as an operator in “live case” demonstrations in many overseas centres.

UPENDRA KAUL | MD, DM, FCSI, FSCAI, FACC, FAMS

Professor Upendra Kaul is currently Executive Director and Dean at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center and Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj New Delhi.

He is a highly recognized name both nationally and internationally for his work in cardiovascular sciences. He is known as a passionate teacher and an astute clinician who is credited with starting the coronary angioplasty program in India and continues to bring innovative techniques in interventional cardiology to the country. He was also on the faculty of G B Pant Hospital, PGIMER Chandigarh and AIIMS where he was a Professor of cardiology.

 He established cardiology units at several hospitals in Govt and private sector. These include C T Center AIIMS, Batra Hospital, Fortis hospitals NOIDA, Vasant Kunj and SSIHMS at Puttaparthy, AP. Dr Kaul has trained more than 350 cardiologists and has authored more than 400 papers and written many books. He is a visiting professor to several overseas universities.

He is a fellow of several prestigious societies in cardiology both nationally and internationally and has delivered many named orations. He has held the posts of President of “Cardiological  Society of India “and SAARC Cardiac Society. Currently he is a Trustee of the SCAI, USA.

MICHEL R. LE MAY | MD, FRCPC

Dr. Le May is an Interventional Cardiologist and Professor of Medicine with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.  Dr. Le May received his Medical Degree from the University of Ottawa (1978).  He completed his training in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California Medical Centre, and a fellowship in Cardiology at Emory University.  Dr. Le May is the Director of the Coronary Care Unit, and Director of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Regional STEMI Program.  Dr. Le May’s clinical interests include interventional cardiology and the management of acute coronary syndromes.  His primary research focus is on developing novel strategies for the management of acute myocardial infarction.  He has designed, completed and published several randomized studies.

He is a recognized clinical researcher with over 53 peer-reviewed manuscripts and over 100 presentations at national and international scientific meetings.  He received the Clinical Science Investigator of the Year Award from the University of Ottawa in 2008 and in 2009 he received The Top Achèvement CIHR Award.  Dr. Le May championed the development of the Ottawa Heart Institute Regional STEMI Program.  These results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Most recently he has pioneered the Ottawa Heart Institute Cardiac Arrest Program.

Dr. Le May’s scholarly and professional activities include serving as Chief Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; Grant Reviewer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) and CIHR Clinical Trials, Reviewer for Circulation and the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, and more.  His professional associations encompass the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology (FACC), Canadian Medical Association, Ontario Medical Association and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society.

Professor Yong Huo is the director of Heart Center of Peking University First Hospital. He is also the president-elect of the Chinese Society of Cardiology,the president of the Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians, and the General-Secretary of Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.

Professor Huo has high reputation in the area of coronary interventional treatment and contributed to the development of cardiovascular intervention in China.He is the director of the Training Center of Interventional Cardiology, Chinese Medical Association and the president of Cardiovascular Disease Interventional Technology Management Working Group, Medical Administrative Department of the Ministry of Health, China.He is in charge of the nationwide online PCI registry database of the Ministry ofHealth, China, and has helped more than 300 provincial and municipal level hospitals carry out coronary interventional treatment.

Professor Huo’s major research interests are coronary heart disease in both laboratory and clinical research, especially in large clinical trials. He is the principal investigator of many state-funded grants and clinical trials, such as the Eleventh Five-year National Key Technology R&D Program, named “Establishment of an integrated system for coronary heart disease prevention and treatment.”  He is now leading the “China STEMI PCI Program,” which aims at building a nationwide strong network to improve upon the problems of low reperfusion rate, non-standardized treatment, and economic burden in STEMI care in China.

TIMOTHY HENRY | MD, FACC

Timothy Henry, MD, FACC, director of research at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, is an interventional cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute/Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Professor of Medicine at University of Minnesota School of Medicine. Dr. Henry graduated from medical school at University of California, San Francisco, in 1982 and was chief medicine resident from 1982–1986 at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He completed his training as a cardiology fellow, chief cardiology fellow, and interventional cardiology fellow at University of Minnesota in 1991. His research interests include interventional cardiology, acute myocardial infarction, and novel therapies, including stem cell and gene therapy, for patients who are not candidates for standard revascularization techniques.

 

Dr. Henry has published over 300 manuscripts and book chapters and has served on the Research Committee for the Minnesota Affiliate of the AHA and the Emergency Care Committee for the ACC; he currently serves on the Advisory Committee for the AHA Mission: Lifeline Program, the AHA Acute Cardiac Care Committee of the Council on Clinical Cardiology and on the ACC Interventional Subcommittee. He has served as national principal investigator of multiple large, multicenter trials in acute coronary syndromes, myocardial infarction and angiogenesis including several ongoing cardiovascular stem cell trials including RENEW, ALLSTAR and ATHENA. He is also principal investigator for 1 of 7 NIH Clinical Cardiovascular Stem Cell Centers. He is a fellow at ACC and SCAI and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology.

Dr Jean Fajadet graduated from the University Hospital of Toulouse in 1984 and has more than 30 years of experience in the field of interventional cardiology. He is currently Co-director of the Interventional Cardiovascular Group at Clinique Pasteur, which is the leading center in France.

Dr Fajadet has been involved as principal investigator or co-investigator in several major clinical trials involving new technologies and devices in the field of interventional cardiology. He has written and co-authored many articles published in peer-reviewed journals such as EuroIntervention, JACC, Circulation, European Heart Journal. He is also fully dedicated to Education, which is a paramount axe of his career. This includes the fellowship programme at Clinique Pasteur and active participation in many worldwide educational meetings (Europe, US, Asia and South America) throughout the year.

Dr Fajadet is one of the co-founders and course director of the EuroPCR congress (the largest interventional cardiology course in the world). He is also course director of GulfPCR and PCR London Valves and course co-director of AsiaPCR. Dr Fajadet is Past-President of EAPCI (European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions, a registered branch of the ESC) and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.

ROBERTO BOTELHO | MD, PhD

Dr. Roberto Botelho is the director of the Triangulo Heart Institute and also of its Interventional Cardiology and Clinical Research Divisions. Dr. Botelho completed his residency, and fellowship at Dante Pazzanese Heart Institute, in Sao Paulo and his Ph.D at the University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine. He also completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Dante Pazzanese Heart Institute. The Scholars In Clinical Trials Course from Harvard University School of Medicine certified Dr. Botelho on 2008. Dr. Botelho is the president of the International Telemedical Systems ITMS. Dr. Botelho sits on the review boards of the International Journal of Cardiology and also for the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Interventional Cardiology.

 

He is a member of the Ethical Review Board of the Uberlandia Federal University. He is co-author of more than 50 published peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts and 10 book chapters. Dr. Botelho also directs the Triangulo Heart Institute Research Division and is principal investigator for over 30 ongoing multicenter clinical and device studies within the research laboratory. Over the past 5 years, these trials have included a broad array of new technology, including bare metal stents, drug-eluting stents, bioresorbable polimers, bioresorbable vascular scaffold, Nitinol, electrical released, self expandable stent platforms, several new molecules, like Ticagrelor, Cangrelor, Apixaban, Otamixaban, Aleglitazar, Saxagliptin, Alogliptin, Dronedarone, Dalcetrapid, and Technical new approaches as radial approach for interventional cardiology. Dr. Botelho s primary clinical interest is currently acute coronary syndromes.

Sameer Mehta, MD, FACC, MBA, is a U.S. interventional cardiologist who has presaged a new medical specialty of the STEMI Interventionist with his innovative work in performing angioplasty for treating heart attacks. Dr. Mehta has pioneered the development of population-based heart attack programs in several countries including China, India, Brazil, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Egypt, Thailand, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Colombia.

Dr. Mehta is the Chairman of the Lumen Foundation that is dedicated to saving lives from heart attacks and in creating population-based STEMI networks.  Dr. Mehta is the Course Director of Lumen Global, the iconic AMI meeting, now in its 16th year, and an international rendezvous of STEMI thought leaders and a power house of generating protocols that improve STEMI care in low and middle income countries.

Dr. Mehta has published extensively about improving STEMI outcomes by optimizing procedural techniques and by refining the STEMI process.  Eliminating chaos, streamlining pre-hospital care and efficient ambulance transportation form his cornerstone mandates of decreasing delays that result in increased morbidity and mortality from AMI.  More recently, Dr. Mehta’s research and training endeavors in AMI care have involved the use of telemedicine to reduce disparities of care between developed and developing countries and to increase access to urgent treatment for AMI.

Dr. Sameer Mehta is the author of five Textbooks on STEMI Interventions that are widely referenced for AMI management.

 

Dr. Sameer Mehta is a past Chief of Interventional Cardiology at Cedars Medical Center, a past President of the American Heart Association in S. Florida, a past Chairman of Research at Miami Heart Institute and a Rotary Scholar.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, an Emeritus Fellow of the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Cardiology Society of India.
